NEW CONCORD -- Friends and family of a New Concord man who died from injuries suffered in an unusual accident will gather tonight at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main St.
Gerry E. Gibson, 68, died Saturday at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He had been struck by a vehicle.
At 4:17 p.m. on May 18, Mr. Gibson was standing in front of a restaurant at 189 W. Main St. when a pickup truck driven by Jerry Dozer, 67, New Concord, attempted to park in a parking space at the restaurant.
Mr. Dozer inadvertently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the truck to travel onto the sidewalk and strike Mr. Gibson, who suffered incapacitating injuries.
Mr. Gibson was taken initially to the hospital by the New Concord Emergency Squad.
Mr. Dozer, who was uninjured, was cited for failure to control.
The case will be reviewed by the Muskingum County prosecutor who will determine whether additional charges will be filed, New Concord Police Chief Ed Stewart said.
