City Native Fatally Hurt In Plunge

James Hugh Patton, 30, of Kent, a former Rix Mills resident, died Monday afternoon of injuries sustained a short time earlier when he fell from a tree while working for a tree company.

Mr. Patton was born in Zanesville April 8, 1942, a son of James Russell and Esther Mindling Patton of Claysville.

He was a 1960 graduate of New Concord High School and an Air Force veteran. He was a member of the College Drive United Presbyterian Church in New Concord. The victim had worked nine years for the tree company.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Janet Beddoe Patton, whom he married June 8, 1968; a brother Paul of Cambridge Route 6; an aunt, Mrs Elizabeth Patton of Columbus; and an uncle, Irwin Patton of New Concord Route 2.

The body was taken to Mock Funeral Home at New Concord where friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at College Drive United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Carroll Wood officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New Concord.
