ROSS OAKLEY JR. 1942-2008

COLUMBUS -- Ross Oakley Jr., 66, of Pickerington, died Saturday (April 5, 2008) at The Ohio State Medical Center.

He was born March 5, 1942, in Portsmouth, son of Ross and Darlene (Colegrove) Oakley Sr.

Mr. Oakley was a retired Columbus Police Department sergeant, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of New Concord High School.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3261, Reynoldsburg, Buckeye Lake VFW and Eagles Lodge, AmVets 2000, and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Joe Oakley.

He leaves his wife, Sharon K. (Watts) Oakley; children, Michael (Denise) Whitaker, Donald (Karen) Oakley, Kristen (Carl) Miller, and Aaron (Crystal) Oakley; eight grandchildren; brothers, Toney (Cynthia) Oakley of Cambridge and John (Jennifer) Oakley of Portsmouth; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus.

Calling hours were held Monday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, 300 West Tenth Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.
